User communities are interesting. Sometimes they can get a bad rap based on the very vocal, lunatic fringe. My first few encounters with that fringe within the Ruby community had me convinced that Ruby wasn't anything that could possible interest me.

Thankfully, the tech lead at my new job is quite sane, very good at what he does and a big Ruby fan. After just a few short conversations with him, I became very interested in Ruby. Which is saying a lot since I might as well have an "I
