Apanhado em excesso de velocidade e com álcool a mais no sangue, Mel Gibson tinha sido preso na madrugada de sábado. Horas mais tarde decidiu fazer uma declaração pública de contrição.

"Combati a doença do alcolismo durante anos e estou muito arrependido e lamento esta recaída", disse a estrela de Hollywood.

O actor e realizador chamou as televisões para dizer que tinha feito "muitas coisas que são erradas" e das quais se arrepende e se "envergonha profundamente". Acrescenta ainda Gibson que teve sorte "em ser apanhado antes que causasse mal a algum outro condutor naquela estrada".
